Geoff Roberts spent his early childhood in New Zealand, returning to the UK for school years at Highgate School, where he became school captain. Following National Service he went on to Cambridge University where he studied Natural Science/Organic Chemistry and won a half blue for shooting.

He joined BP in 1953 and was initially stationed at their UK refineries in Grangemouth and Kent.  Marrying Margaret in 1956, he was posted by BP to the Little Aden refinery in 1961.

Geoff and Margaret arrived in Aden with two children and left in 1964 with four.  Their shared interest in music led to participation in concerts and light operas including one performance on the Ark Royal.  Geoff also continued his shooting with the army at an improvised club range at Bir Fuqum, and army friends helped organise excursions to the Hadramaut.  Geoff maintained his connection with Aden friends for many years through the Aden dinner club, of which he was an active member and ultimately chairman for more than a decade until his death.

He lived for almost 50 years in Thorpe, Surrey, where he was fully involved in the local community including membership of the Rotary Club and Parochial Church Council.

Geoff is survived by Margaret, his four children, and nine grandchildren.
